Dear Family,
Have you made plans and had them go wrong? Today at bible study, we found ourselves in the book of James, and we read the following verses. “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.”
As always, I ponder everything I have read when I spend time in God’s Word. This reflection brought me back to a time years ago when we had a huge 4th of July planned with Carah’s Family in Manteca, CA—lots of extended family and friends. One of the invitees was the father of Carah’s sister.
About the time that guests would be arriving, a call came that changed the direction of the holiday for many years to come. The call informed us that Jennifer’s father’s car had left an overpass in Tracy Ca and landed upside down in a canal. Our day of celebration did not go as planned and turned into a vigil at the hospital in Stockton not long after he passed away.
This Sunday, we will discuss a 13-14-year-old girl whose day did not go as planned. Maybe you will leave church this Sunday with lots of things to ponder. The change in plans that day changed this young girl’s life forever. See you Sunday at 9:30 as we celebrate that God is with us!
In Him,
Pastor Chris
P. S. All the gift tags have been taken off the tree, and we look forward to getting them all back this Sunday.
